Call for applications: Advanced Qualitative Methods DEPUTY Director

By 17th April 2024 No Comments

The White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership is seeking to recruit 2 x Advanced Qualitative Methods Deputy Directors

Each of our methods areas is led by a team comprised of a Methods Director and Deputies, drawn from universities across the WRDTP partnership, who together are responsible for organising an annual programme of advanced research methods training in their particular area of responsibility (i.e. Advanced Quantitative Methods, Advanced Qualitative Methods or Advanced Data Analytics). Working collaboratively, the Methods Director and their Deputies ensure that the programme of methods training and development offered is innovative, inclusive and engaging; and of relevance to PGRs across the partnership and pathways.
The post of Methods Deputy Director will be taken up by an academic colleague with:
  • enthusiasm for research methods training and a genuine commitment to PGR support and development.
  • experience of delivering PGR training and/or support.
  • a background in research that utilises high quality and innovative methodological approaches.
The post has a start date of  1 September 2024.  The post will be held by a colleague in an accredited department from one of our seven partner universities, and is an excellent opportunity in terms of networking and career development. We welcome applications to our pathway deputy posts from academic colleagues at all career stages.
The post has an indicative workload of 0.1 FTE. This is to provide post-holders and line managers with a realistic sense of the time that is required to undertake the role. The term is for three years.  Please note that the post is not remunerated, and does not come with ‘buy-out’ funding.  All seven partner institutions, via the WRDTP Management Group, have committed to ensuring the in-kind resources necessary (i.e. colleagues’ time) to enable colleagues to participate in the governance of the WRDTP.
These posts are being advertised across all partner institutions, and we welcome applications from across the partnership.  When making an appointment, attention will be paid to the overall composition of the team to ensure equitable and distributed representation of our partner universities.  We particularly welcome female applicants, and applicants from the Universities of Bradford and York.
To apply for one of these posts, please submit a short CV (2 sides max) and an expression of interest (500 words max) detailing a) the skills and attributes you will bring to the role and b) your ideas for advanced qualitative methods training.  You should also confirm that the 0.1 FTE buyout has been agreed by your Head of Department/School.
The deadline for applications is midday on Thursday 9 May.  Interviews will be held on the morning of Thursday 16 May.
Applications should be sent to training@wrdtp.ac.uk. If you would like to discuss this role informally, you are welcome to contact Professor Felicity Matthews, White Rose DTP Director, f.m.matthews@sheffield.ac.uk.
